What is the goal of the project?

YouTube has an extremely invasive privacy policy which relies on using user data in unethical ways. You give them a lot of data - ranging from ideas, music taste, content, political opinions, and much more than you think.
By using LibreTube, you can freely watch and listen to content without the fear of prying eyes watching everything you are doing. Apart from that the Piped proxies can bypass geo restrictions, therefore LibreTube can be used in countries where YouTube is blocked.

Is it possible to log in with a Google account?

Google accounts are not supported and never will be, however importing subscriptions from YouTube is possible.

How can I import my subscriptions from YouTube?

1. Go to Google's Takeout Page.
2. Select only YouTube and YouTube Music.
3. Choose only Subscriptions Under the All data included section.
4. Create Export and Download the zip.
5. Extract the zip and locate the subscriptions.csv file.
6. Open LibreTube and navigate to Settings > Backup & restore > Import subscriptions.
7. Select the subscriptions.csv (may be named in the language of your YT account instead) file.

Where are downloaded files stored?

Downloaded files are stored in external private storage (Android/data/com.github.libretube).
Note that since Android 11, the READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission does not grant third party apps access to external private storage, requiring workarounds.
The (usually hidden, not to be confused with Files by Google) Android built-in Files app will always have access to this directory.
In the downloaded files, audio and video are separated. Hence it is recommended to exclusively use LibreTube for playing downloaded media.
